Elk Grove Village, IL is a suburb of Chicago located about 12 miles west of the Chicago “loop”. As of the 2010 census 33,127 residents lived in Elk Grove Village.

Elk Grove Village is named after a small herd of elk kept in a grove at the eastern edge of the Busse Woods forest preserve. Elk are not native to the area but were brought in from Montana by one of the village’s earliest residence’s in the 1920s.  The elk are currently maintained by the Chicago Zoological Society veterinary staff and the Busse Woods Forest Preserve wildlife biologists.

Today, Elk Grove Village is home to the largest industrial park in the U.S.  Over 3,600 businesses are located in its 5.4 square mile business park next to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.  Several interstate highway systems including I-90, I-290/I-355/Route 53,  and the Elgin–O’Hare Expressway serve this area.

Several well known businesses make their home in Elk Grove Village included Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Apple Vacations, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Pepsi Cola Distribution.  United Airlines used to be headquartered here until they moved to downtown Chicago.

Noteable people from the area include: Billy Corgan, lead singer and guitarist (The Smashing Pumpkins); Dave Cullen, author; Irene Kotowicz, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player; John McDonough, president of the Chicago Blackhawks and former president of the Chicago Cubs; Dave Otto, former Major League Baseball player and Chicago Cubs and ESPN broadcast analysis.
