Downers Grove, IL is a suburb of Chicago located about 30 miles southwest of the Chicago “loop”. As of the 2010 census 47,800 lived in Downers Grove.

Downers Grove was founded in 1832 by Pierce Downer a religious man from New York.  In 1862 the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad was extended from Aurora to Chicago cutting through Downers Grove in efforts to boost its population. The town was later incorporated in March 1873.  In an unusual bit, some have spelled the towns name apostrophe-free since 1873.

To further the towns population, two major toll roads were added;  I-355 in 1989 and what is now referred to as I-88 in 1958 allowed people more access to the rest of Chicago.

Downers Grove has been home to Rossi Furniture, Devry University, FTD, Arrow Gear, Heartland Food Corporation, and Abercrombie & Kent.  Top employers in the city include Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Midwestern University, and Acxiom.
