Mesquite, a suburb east of Dallas, Texas also located in Dallas County has a population of 144,788 as of the 2015 census. Mesquite received a Playful City USA designation four years in a row as of 2016.

Mesquite was founded on March 14, 1878. The town was named by the locals after Mesquite Creek. On December 3, 1887 the city was officially incorporated after Mayor J.E. Russell was elected. Mesquite, years before settlers had moved to the area, was an open prairie land. It was a key trading ground for indigenous people.

In the year 1946 the Mesquite Rodeo had been founded by CC AKA Charlie Columbus McNally. The Mesquite Rodeo was one of the only rodeos that had a pemanent location. ESPN had begun broadcasting the events by the mid 1980s. The Mesquite Arena became home to the Mesquite ProRodeo in 1986. Twelve years later in 1998 the Mesquite Arena was expanded to include a converntion center, exhibition hall, and Hampton Inn & Suites. Mesquite also offers faclities incuding the Mesquite Arts Center which serves as the cultural center for the community. And the Mesquite Golf Club open 7 days a week for both novice and expert golfers.

Mesquite is also home to Historic Mesquite Inc or HMI. HMI is a nonprofit organization which helps to preserve the hiostoric structures, history, and culture of Mesquite.

Located in Mesquite is publicly owned and operated airport, Mesquite Metro Airport. There are also two other airports neqrby, Dallas/Fort Worth and Dallas Love Field. Mesquite however is not a member of Dallas Area Rapid Transit also known as DART. Although Mesquite is not a member, the DART Board on April 12, 2011 changed its policy the permit DART to contract cities that are not members.
